The end of Cucurulla street marks the beginning of an avenue with numerous shops of national and international importance, Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel Avenue. In its day, the avenue hosted one of the first department stores, known as ‘Almacenes Jorba’, later named ‘Jorba-Preciados’, which currently belongs to ‘El Corte Inglés’. There are numerous legends about the name of the street, but they are almost all related to the epidemics that the city suffered. After they had been eradicated, the avenue that marked the entrance to the walled city was named the Portal of the Angel, as if the end of the epidemic was the result of divine action.

At the end of Portal de l'Àngel we find Plaça Catalunya, the city’s nerve centre and the point that served as a link between the old walled city and Eixample. It is this same square that currently joins the most commercial part of Barcelona, connecting the Portal de l'Àngel with the Passeig de Gràcia.

The exclusivity of Passeig de Gràcia becomes evident with every step. Established as a residential centre since the beginning of the 20th century, architects such as Puig i Cadafalch, Domènech i Montaner, Gaudí, and the wealthier social class used the Paseo to show their influence and economic capacity.

Today it's one of the most famous streets in the world for luxury lovers, either because of the presence of exclusive national and international brands or because of its architectural beauty. Modernist buildings such as Casa Ametller, Casa Batlló and Casa Milá —better known as La Pedrera — make this 'Paseo' a unique place.

There is also a great gastronomic offer, either in Passeig de Gràcia itself or in one of the streets that crosses it.
